Chapter Text

The blistering summer heat is slowly fading off as night overtakes the sky above a small town tucked away in some corner of Utah. The area itself is your average semi-rural small town, not many young people, and certainly not many late night parties. It’s near silent at this time of day, lacking any of the bustle or noise of a city. Here though lies a recently re-opened restaurant just about to close its doors for the night. The restaurant is a decent sized building with a massive sign glowing brightly above the entrance picturing a collection of colorful animal mascots, the restaurant’s name is also clearly visible “Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza.” A banner hangs below reading “Grand Reopening.”
Inside the smell of pizza and soda fills every corner of the space, along with various beeps and boops emanating from a collection of arcade machines somewhere nearby. There is a stage at the end of the building containing animatronic versions of the mascots pictured outside, they all stand there lifeless, shut off as the curtain closes for the day. A man with slicked back hair and a purple dress shirt wanders through the building, overlooking every detail of the space, his badge reads “Manager.” He spots a woman dressed in the same uniform, but with an added blue vest. She has shoulder length ginger hair, and piercing green eyes and is currently wiping off one of the many tables littering the place. She rings the towel out into the nearby bucket as she gets up, finished for now.
MANAGER: Heya Elizabeth, I see you’ve finished up already!
MANAGER: It’s so great to have such a passionate worker as part of our Fazbear Family!
ELIZABETH: Yeah… So great.
Elizabeth rolls her eyes at the man, but he doesn’t seem to notice as he places his hand on her shoulder, gripping tighter than necessary.
MANAGER: So Liz- I can call you Liz right?
ELIZABETH: Please don’t.
MANAGER: Excellent!
MANAGER: So Liz, how did your first day treat ya?
MANAGER: Hope the animatronics didn’t spook ya too bad Ha Ha!
ELIZABETH: It was… Fine.
MANAGER: Good, Good!
An awkward silence falls over two now. Elizabeth begins to slowly pull herself away from the man’s grasp, before he leans in close.
MANAGER: Soooo, may I ask what bought you here?
ELIZABETH: I needed a job.
MANAGER: Ha Ha good one!
MANAGER: I meant this town of ours, why move all the way out here?
ELIZABETH: I grew up here.
MANAGER: AH, Family nearby!
Elizabeth shifted uncomfortably on her feet, she was no longer even faking to look in his direction as she began nervously rubbing the bright green bracelet around her wrist.
ELIZABETH: No…
Elizabeth backs herself away from the man, who seems at a loss for words for a second.
MANAGER: Well I hope you enjoy it anyhow!
MANAGER: How about we get outta here, days over.
The manager strides over to the building's entrance leaving Elizabeth behind, she stays there for a moment before trailing behind. The man grips the handle to the door, pulling it open a crack letting the night air waft into the building before shutting it again suddenly.
MANAGER: Fritz!
MANAGER: We forgot about Fritz!
MANAGER: Liz can you go grab him, he should be backstage?
MANAGER: We wouldn’t want to lock him in here all night now would we.
The manager chuckles uncomfortably at the end of his sentence, Elizabeth doesn’t respond, just turns and heads towards the backstage in a swift motion.
The backstage air is musky, it’s hard to see with all the lights off inside, the only source of light is what’s creeping though the now open door as Elizabeth steps into the room. Elizabeth steps carefully on the cold floor of the room, various boxes of replacement parts and backup materials litter the area making it hard to move. Once at the end of the room Elizabeth is greeted by nothing more than a stack of boxes, no one in sight. Elizabeth takes one last scan of the cramped room, but nothing. She picks up her feet and maneuvers her way to the door, before she hears something behind her. She stops dead in her tracks, frozen in place as the sound of rustling continues around her. Every so slowly, inch by inch she turns her head catching a glimpse of the stack of boxes shaking ever so slightly.
FRITZ: BOO!
Inches away from Elizabeth’s face looms Freddy’s brown bear head, his big round eyes stare into hers and his fake smile mockingly plastered on his face. The once stack of boxes now lay scattered all over the floor.
FRITZ: Ha Ha sorry bout that, hope I didn’t scare ya too bad.
Elizabeth just stares at the man in front of her, much younger than the manager and in the same outfit as her. He pulls off the spare Freddy head and drops it to the floor with a heavy thunk. He continues softly laughing to himself, running a hand through his hair as he does so.
FRITZ: Well that was fun, but let’s get outta here.
Fritz turns on his heels and wanders out of the door. Elizabeth just stands there, she looks down at Freddy's head on the ground staring up at her with its dead eyes. An uncomfortable feeling bubbles up in her gut seeing Freddy like this, it reminds her of a time she doesn’t want to forget, but paradoxically doesn’t want to remember and so she just stares.
She doesn’t know how long she stays there before she decides to leave, when she does everything is now off, dead, night fully taken over. The other two seem to have already left, she notices they left the key by the entrance for her, guess she’s locking up for the night. She reaches out to the handle and pulls, but it doesn’t budge. She tries the key, but it won’t turn no matter how hard she tries. She bangs on the door, but still nothing. Looking out the window she sees no one nearby. She’s trapped.
