Sakura stared at herself in the mirror. Tomoyo had made her yet another new costume, a white dress with red lacy trim. It clasped at the back of her neck, leaving her shoulders bared, and her pearl white gloves went above her elbows. The front of the skirt was shorter, revealing white thigh-highs lined with red hearts, and in the back it stretched to the floor, decorated with red roses. Although there were no more Clow Cards to capture or transform into Sakura Cards, every so often Tomoyo still had a new costume for her.
She laid a gloved hand over her racing heart. The mirror reflected Tomoyo smiling behind her, that familiar sparkle in her dark eyes.
"Sakura-chan, you're always so beautiful!" Tomoyo exclaimed, clasping her hands together. "Ah, how I've missed this!"
Sakura blushed and giggled, turning to face Tomoyo. "Yeah, we really don't do this as much as we used to, huh?"
A shadow flickered across Tomoyo's face, but just as quickly did her familiar smile return. "Even if there are no more cards to capture, Valentine's Day is tomorrow, and I can't afford to miss this opportunity!" She patted her camcorder on the table beside her. "A Valentine-themed photo shoot with the one and only Cardcaptor Sakura! Ah, I can't wait!"
"Valentine's Day…?" Again Sakura turned toward the mirror, and her blush had deepened. It truly was a beautiful dress, and reminded her much of a bride. Yet there was something missing… "Maybe you can wear a white suit, Tomoyo-chan! We can match!"
"Me?" Tomoyo squeaked, a rosy blush across her pale cheeks. "I-If I did that, we'd look like a c-cou…"
"A couple," Sakura finished, her voice far calmer than her heart.
Tomoyo pressed her hands to her cheeks, and rarely did Sakura ever see her at such a loss for words. She had always been beautiful, the most beautiful girl Sakura knew, so of course she loved watching Tomoyo out of the corner of her eye. But lately, ever since they had entered middle school, a different kind of longing filled her, a longing almost like what she once felt toward Yukito but stronger.
Sakura twirled, letting the skirts of her costume billow around her. Whenever she modeled a new costume, Tomoyo's gaze was fixated only on her, and she hadn't realized how much she missed that. "It's like you said - it's almost Valentine's Day, and we can't waste this chance!"
Tomoyo's eyes began to water, but still she smiled, a smile Sakura had never seen on her before. "Sakura-chan, do you understand what you're saying…?"
"Um…" Sakura stammered, and her cheeks felt so very warm. "I mean, I know I'm not very bright, and there's a lot of things I don't get, but…" She swallowed dryly and reached for Tomoyo's hands and let their fingers lace. "What I do know is that I want to be with you, as both your best friend, and… more."
"Oh, my dear Sakura-chan…" Tomoyo stepped closer to Sakura, their foreheads touching. "I'm not dreaming, am I…?"
"Of course not," Sakura said with a giggle, and then pressed her lips against Tomoyo's.
