“Maria!” Yuki exclaimed, hugging her girlfriend from behind in the hallway. Maria practically leaps out of her skin, and squeaks in surprise. She turns around to Yuki, her face flushed red.
“Yuki, don’t scare me like that…”
“Sorry. I just wanted you to come down with me to the nursery.” Yuki took her hand and started walking. Maria took her hand back, not quite used to the gesture yet, but started walking side by side with Yuki, her face still flushed. Yuki couldn’t help but smile; an embarrassed Maria was an adorable sight.
“Midori-chan has started teething!” Yuki tells her excitedly, and Maria’s face forms into a softer look.
“Well, that is quite an exciting development,” Maria agreed, a bit calmer now. She was still getting used to the whole dating thing.
They walk in comfortable silence together towards the nursery. When they enter, Usaida-san is the only one there, holding Midori.
“Hello Usaida-san,” Maria greets him with a bow. Yuki also nods to him, and goes to sit down by him. She holds her arms out, asking to hold Midori. Maria sits down next to them as well.
“Here we go,” Usaida helps transfer Midori to Yuki’s arms.
“She’s such a cutie pie.” Yuki boops Midori, who squeals happily. Maria’s heart melts at the noise. She reaches a finger forward to gently squish Midori’s cheek. But, Midori decides to turn her head, so Maria accidentally sticks the finger in Midori’s mouth. Before she can take it out, Midori bites down, teething on Maria’s finger.
“Ow!” Maria shrieks, and yanks out her finger. Yuki transfers Midori, who started crying when the finger was yanked away, back to Usaida, and takes Maria’s finger to look at it.
“We need to go to the nurse’s office and clean this up. C’mon!” Yuki helped her girlfriend up, and started walking her down the hall to the nurse. The bite wasn’t awful, but better safe than sorry.
The mood is a bit more tense as they head to nurse’s office. Seeing no one is there, Yuki ushers Maria to sit down on a bed, and then she rushes over to the cabinets to get supplies.
Maria finally got a good look at her finger. Midori got her good, and there was a tiny bit of blood coming from her finger.
“I got the stuff.” Yuki sat down a few things next to Maria. She picked up a bottle of disinfectant and poured a bit on a cotton ball. She gently cleaned Maria’s finger, but it still stung, and Maria made a hiss of pain. Yuki wrapped a bandaid around the finger, taking great care to make it not bunch up.
Finally, she brought the bandaged finger to her mouth and gave a tiny kiss. Maria squeaked, and Yuki smiled. “Mom always made the boo-boos feel better with a kiss!”
“Th- then, thank you,” Maria mumbled out, face bright red.
“No problem!” Yuki grinned widely, and Maria had to return it. Her girlfriend was so nice.
