“Are you sure about this?” Sayaka asked Kirari, knowing the question was useless. When Kirari decided something, it would happen.
Sayaka ducked her head into her hands, and took a deep breath. This was not the time to cry. She turned to the man waiting before them, and she put on her metaphorical mask. She was no longer Sayaka, she was Igarashi-san, secretary to the student council president, Kirari Momobami.
“Kirari-san and Hotaru-san,” Sayaka hoped her voice wasn’t wavering as she moved to stand between the two. “You will participate in a game of my choice to determine whether Kirari will become engaged to Hotaru.”
Sayaka hated this. Some guy who had enough sway in the world to even be considered allowed to go after the president. Kirari had said Sayaka should choose their gamble.
The game had two options. Skill based, or luck based. Skill based should be what Sayaka chose, seeing as Kirari was brilliant in her own right. But, this guy was descended from a whole family of experts in sciences and maths, and often topped score charts.
So there were luck based games. But therein lie their issues. They’re based on luck, which cannot be predicted.
Sayaka minutely shook her head. She walked to the student council’s cabinet of game implements. As her fingers wandered, they paused over the tarot deck. A different one from the deck Kirari used with Yumeko. But…
Sayaka hated she was considering this. Hated she was allowing herself to think that this game was lucky in any sense of the word, allowing both Kirari and Yumeko to stay at Hyakou.
She took out the deck. She stood in front of the two. She held up the cards. “You will play ‘Tarot Cards of Destiny.’”
Sayaka allowed herself to believe in luck. Because the cards always favored Kirari. And they would again this time. Destiny wouldn’t take Kirari away from Sayaka; they were intertwined.
