Andy is thankful Quynh is by her side, she is, but in the darkest part of the night she can’t stop herself from wondering if the cost is too high. What if they are too late? What happens when Quynh eventually dies and Andy faces eternity truly alone? She imagines herself gently spinning through space with the stars, unable to revive.
Quynh stirs, rolls over. They are sleeping outside, where Quynh feels safest. “Why are you awake, my love?” she asks drowsily.
Andy sighs, clasping their hands together. “Consulting the stars.”
Eternity is insignificant in the face of Quynh’s warmth.
