Work Text:
The snowball flew at them suddenly with a lot less finesse than it probably should, and Mel easily froze it despite being distracted and Abigael looked over to the young girl trying to look innocent, causing Abigael to chuckle – she was too much like her mother sometimes.
“I thought I told you to play with Lydia?” Mel questioned her daughter, her voice laced with amusement with only a hint of fake disappointment.
“Mom! I am! She just sent it flying!”
Abigael glanced over the backyard to look for her niece, even as she squeezed Mel’s hand to comfort her. Abigael knew Mel didn’t mind the interruption, not if it was her daughter of course and neither did she, she absolutely adored the little witch as if she was her own. However, Lydia was supposed to be keeping Mel’s daughter out of trouble after all. Lydia wasn’t in the yard with them, Abigael quickly learned, and had a feeling Lydia hadn’t been the one to throw the snow ball.
“Are you sure about that?” Mel asked her daughter, glancing over to Abigael having come to same conclusion she had.
“Well,” Mel’s daughter started and then sighed deeply, “No… I sent it flying… I didn’t mean to hit you guys though. I only meant to practice.”
Abigael grinned at the implication, “Oh my darling little witch, if you want to practice – all you have to do was ask. I’d love to show you a thing or two.”
Mel’s daughter slammed into Abigael before she could even hear Mel’s response if she even had one. The little witch hugged her tightly, and she let go of the Mel to encircle her into an embrace. Abigael could practically feel her heart melt as she held on to the little witch. She glanced up towards Mel, only to find a warm knowing grin lighting up her face. Abigael returned it wholeheartedly and hoped not for the last time that this would never end. She’d love to spend the rest of time with Mel and her daughter.
THE END.
