“Teko, are you ready?”
Teko turned as she heard Pikari calling her name. The smaller girl gave her a bright smile before walking over to her to check her diving gear.
As Pikari checked everything, Teko found herself looking at the features of her face as she thought back to everything she had experienced with her since moving here. She had thought that her new life here would be sad, she had almost hated it before she had even arrived. Separated from her dearest friends, Teko had thought that she would never meet anyone as nice as them.
But then she had met Pikari. She and her naivety, she and her joie de vivre, she and her constant smile. She had managed to show her what a life full of tender and amusing moments was – she was never sad. She had transmitted her passion to her, they had become closer thanks to her and today Teko could not imagine what her life would have been without Pikari by her side.
This strong friendship was something she cherished more than anything in the world. Every time she saw Pikari, she felt her heart swell with love and affection for her friend, she couldn't help but smile and everything that was bothering her disappeared in an instant.
For a long time she had thought that Pikari was her best friend, someone she would never lose sight of and with whom she would stay in touch for the rest of her life. But when one day, as they were getting out of the water and taking off their diving gear, Pikari finally told her how she felt, Teko realised something.
She understood that the people they considered her friends were Ai or Makoto, but Pikari was much more than that. Pikari was the person who made her want getting up every morning, the person she wanted to be with no matter what day it was, the person she wanted to spend the rest of her life with.
Pikari was the person she would cherish and love all her life.
