Work Text:
The living room seems so much darker and so much quieter after the TV is shut off. Shadows of furniture and open doorways seem to hide dark figures leftover from the horror movie marathon they had been having until- Kyoko cranes her head to see the green numbers of the oven clock in the kitchen- a little after two in the morning. She settles back against the pillow, closes her eyes, and breathes out slowly, and Hana snores a bit louder on the other couch.
It takes a moment for Kyoko’s heart to stop pounding from the sudden noise. The fear slowly fades away from where it was lurking in the back of her mind like a leopard in a tree. She shifts into a more comfortable position on the couch and stretches out her legs, knees aching from being in a cramped position for too long.
Her feet touch someone else’s, and Chrome gasps, “Huh?”
Kyoko yanks her feet back. “Sorry, Chrome-chan,” she whispers. “I forgot how small the couch is.”
“It’s okay,” Chrome yawns. Then she shifts once or twice before going still and silent, seemingly asleep once more.
Kyoko’s more than a little envious. She waits a few minutes before she stretches her legs back out again, this time making sure she stops before actually touching Chrome. Chrome sighs, and Kyoko freezes. Maybe this sharing a couch thing wasn’t such a good idea, but Kyoko wasn’t going to let the inevitable fight over who would sacrifice their comfort to sleep on the floor occur.
However, Chrome simply wedges her feet under Kyoko’s legs without saying a word, and Kyoko feels her face begin to burn. Her legs felt like they were being zapped with electricity where Chrome’s feet where touching. This was a friendship thing right? Friends share couches and shove their feet under each other’s legs. There’s no reason to read into this any further.
Kyoko was definitely reading further into it.
Chrome’s feet dig into Kyoko’s thighs before relaxing again. “Stop stressing,” she says almost too quiet to hear. “Ken usually sleeps on my feet anyway.”
Gulping- oh please let Chrome not have heard that- Kyoko nods into the dark. “Okay, Chrome-chan. I just didn’t want you to be feel uncomfortable.”
“I’m not. Goodnight, Kyoko-chan.”
“Night, Chrome-chan.”
Kyoko spends some more time staring into the darkness. Was it really alright? Chrome wouldn’t have said it was if it wasn’t, besides she said Ken usually sleeps on her feet anyway, so she’s clearly used to it. And that means this is definitely a friends thing.
But what if it isn’t? Does Kyoko want it to be?
Shaking the thoughts from her head, Kyoko closes her eyes and focuses on the sounds of waves crashing at the beach. Definitely not Chrome at the beach with her in a bathing suit. Just the sounds of waves and seagulls and the wind until she falls asleep.
