"I can't believe they asked if you need to take wolfsbane," Millicent huffed as she closed the door.
"Can you blame them? It's not the safest thing in the world, having a werewolf under their roof," Lavender said.
"They know it's not a full moon. I saw Ariadne check the calendar when they invited us. Assholes."
"They've been perfectly polite. More polite than I'm used to."
"Whose side are you on?" Millicent snapped.
"You know I'm on your side. To be honest, I'm more bothered by how Ariadne has to remind everyone she's only your stepmum. And your dad doesn't say anything."
Millicent waved her hand impatiently. "Well, I'm used to that. It's just…I can't stand the way they look at you."
"Not everyone is used to my scars, love."
"No, not that. It's like they're not surprised. Like because I'm an ugly fat halfblood born out of wedlock, a werewolf is the best I can do. Like this is punishment. They don't know how amazing you are. They don't realize I'm lucky."
"I'm lucky, too. And if they don't see that, fuck them."
Lavender cupped Millicent's face and kissed her tears. Millicent smiled and let herself be loved.
