Lukewarm

Summary:

"You're just the only one who really knows me, and doesn't try to change me. And now you'll be gone."

A missing moment from the bed scene in episode 1.

Notes:

The bed scene. did things to me.

I originally had a slightly longer smutty idea for this, but this felt better.

Work Text:

Already the feeling of Anna's nails were beginning to fade from Rachel's skin, willing the sensation to permeate through her, to let her body relax in this moment before everything is gone from her forever.

Anxiety clawed its way through her stomach, trying to keep the creature contained, to not pollute Anna further with her worries. She can't take Anna's happiness away from her. The comfort of their stolen moments had always been a separate pleasure, and Rachel knew it would come to an end eventually. She wasn't ready.

'I'll always love you, idiot,' Anna says, pressing her lips to the crown of Rachel's head; a lukewarm feeling Rachel finds little comfort in.

Anna's heart beat strong beneath Rachel's fingers, where her nails were digging purple moons into her soft skin. She should let go. Anna's not said anything. A desperate part of Rachel wants to leave her mark on Anna – a trace of herself that she can't slough off after they leave this bed.

'You do know that, don't you, Rach? I'll never stop loving you, no matter what happens.'

Rachel isn't sure she can believe her. For now, she tries to hold that her words will be truthful.
