Work Text:

Agnea's wind magic was beautiful, Giselle thought to herself as she watched the young dancer. Green-tinted winds swirled around Agnea, her skirts fluttering in the breeze. Her movements were like the winds themselves, graceful and effortless, and she hummed quietly to herself. She spread her arms wide, twirling upon the ground as fallen petals scattered around her. "Whirlwind blow!" she called out, and a faint green glow erupted around her.

"That was beautiful!" Giselle exclaimed, clapping.

"Why, thank you!" Agnea bowed and flashed a bright smile at Giselle, and Giselle's breath caught in her throat.

While Coda and Rico rested in New Delsta, Giselle and Agnea traveled around the Brightlands and Crestlands. It hadn't been that long since the unnatural night and learning of Tanzy's passing, so Rico and Coda wanted to settle down in one place for a bit, but Giselle had grown restless, so when Agnea offered to travel with her, Rico and Coda had encouraged her to accept that offer. They now passed through the Crestlands and had found a clearing to rest, and dormant feelings began to bubble to the surface.

Agnea smiled again as she sat beside Giselle on a fallen log; her heart raced whenever she was near Agnea these days. "Who taught you magic?" she asked Agnea in hopes of calming her heart.

"My mother did. She said it'd help me with my dancing." Agnea's smile brightened. "And she was right!"

Giselle swallowed dryly; if Agnea only knew the effect that smile had on her. "Y-Yes, she was…" she stammered.

Fortunately, Agnea didn't seem to notice Giselle's anxious mood. "I learned another wind spell during my travels, when I accidentally stumbled upon a hidden altar from Sealticge. Me and my companions had gotten all turned around, and when I approached the statue, it felt like a new refrain had awakened in my heart."

"Oh, I heard about that rumor from the dancer's guild in Wellgrove once! According to legend, there's an altar that only the chosen dancer can find." Giselle grinned. "You really are blessed by the Lady of Grace, Agnea."

Agnea folded her hands over her chest. "That was all the more reason we couldn't fail in bringing back the dawn," she said softly.

Although these days that unnatural night felt little more than a dream, the pain of losing Tanzy still felt too fresh, and Giselle knew that she, Coda, and Rico would always have to live with that grief. Agnea didn't often speak of that night or what she and her companions had endured, but they had brought back the dawn, and for that Giselle would always be grateful. "'Every sunrise brings another chance to shine,'" she replied, her voice just as soft. "That's what you told me."

A quiet laugh fell from Agnea's lips as she rested her head against Giselle's shoulder. "I know we can't save everyone, and it hurts, but I just couldn't let that cult take away the dawn from all of us."

Carefully Giselle took Agnea's hand into hers. She could scarcely imagine the courage it took to face a dark god, but such was the magic of the bonds Agnea shared with her companions, Giselle knew. Her own courage was far more mundane, leaving a life planned out for her by others and walking into an unknown future, but Agnea would say that courage was just as important, she knew. She brushed her lips against the back of Agnea's hand, watched as a soft blush spread across Agnea's lovely face.

"Giselle…" Agnea said, raising a hand to touch Giselle's cheek, and after a moment's breath, pressed her lips to Giselle's.

The kiss was like a whirlwind itself, and Giselle pulled Agnea into her arms as they kissed each other over and over until they were out of breath. And then Giselle kissed Agnea again, just as passionately.

Agnea tucked her head underneath Giselle's chin once their lips finally parted. "I'm glad we can travel like this, I really am."

A part of Giselle wondered if Rico and Coda had known this would happen when they encouraged her to travel with Agnea. They had never been shy about teasing Giselle about her infatuation with Agnea, after all. If so, she would have to thank them later. "So am I, my dear dreamer," she said, brushing her lips against Agnea's hair.

A gentle wind rustled through the trees, and Giselle held Agnea in her arms a little longer before they continued their travels.
