Work Text:

It only takes a few hours to find the shipwreck. Lavender reads the runes while Millicent steers the boat according to her directions. After a year of research and planning, all there is to do now is don subaqueous robes, cast bubble-head charms, and swim into the deep.

It’s a large ship, a maze of warped wood, downy algae, and forgotten things frozen in time at the ocean floor.  Eventually they will take measurements, catalog objects, make sketches.  Now they allow themselves to explore unfettered, basking in their victory.

Millicent surfaces, heady from adrenaline and the delicious sensation of the sun on her damp skin. Lavender pulls her into a spontaneous jig across the deck.

“We did it!”  They embrace.  A misplaced kiss on the cheek causes their lips to collide, and neither pulls away.  Millicent pauses. This is probably a bad idea.  It could complicate things at best, ruin them at worst.  Then Lavender kisses her again, and this time it’s not an accident.

Millicent nuzzles closer and runs her fingers along the curve of Lavender’s cheek. “Can we stay like this for a while?” she whispers.

So they do.  Then they plunge once more into the sublime abyss.
