Blushing birds go down to drink

Summary:

Chrome thought Kyoko would love the crystal grotto, so she takes her to it on their next date. She was, of course, right.

Notes:

Title is from this poem by Emily Dickinson. I dug through old LJ prompt tables for inspiration and found 30randomkisses, and this is what I came up with for "Crystal"

Work Text:

The grotto shines with an unearthly blue light emanating from the water. Crystals sparkle like stars on the cavern walls, climbing ever higher until they begin to jut down from the ceiling as stalactites. Still more poke up in clusters along the ground. Their colors bleached blue by the light.

A river winds through the cavern. It’s waters dark and smooth, reflecting the the crystal stars above. Chrome kneels down beside it, unscrews her water bottle, and dips it in the slow-moving water while Kyoko slowly turns in place in the center of the cavern. Her amber eyes wide and her face smiling as she takes in every inch of the sight.

“It’s so beautiful, Chrome-chan!” Kyoko twirls around, then she stops, facing Chrome. Her cheeks ache from the broadness of her grin.

Chrome stands, taking a drink from the water bottle she just filled. “I thought you’d like it,” she says quietly. Her voice rings off the stone, and for moment, Kyoko wonders what it would be like to hear Chrome sing. How the cries of the high notes would ring out and back again. How the breathy hums of the low notes would reverberate against the crystals. How they could turn this cavern into a cathedral for their own private performance.

She moistens her lips as Chrome takes another gulp of water before holding the bottle out to Kyoko. Kyoko steps forward, wraps her hand around the cool metal of the water bottle, and cups Chrome’s cheek with her other hand. Drops of water rest on Chrome’s lips,  shimmery blue pearls catching the light, drawing Kyoko’s attention away from everything else.

Chrome’s mouth parts. Her tongue moves forward to swipe the droplets away.

But Kyoko closes the distance between them first. The water drops burst in her mouth as she slides her tongue over Chrome’s lips and into her mouth, it’s taste leaving her wanting for more. Her fingers slide into Chrome’s hair, and Chrome’s hand wraps around her waist.

The water bottle crashes to the ground. The walls ring. Chrome’s hand rests on Kyoko’s cheek as Kyoko tips her back. When they pull apart, Kyoko stares deep into Chrome’s eye, traces the eyepatch covering half her face, tries to count the glimmers of crystal-light reflected in its depths.

“I love you so much, Chrome-chan,” she whispers. “I love you more than the stars in the sky.”

Chrome smiles and kisses the corner of Kyoko’s mouth. “I know,” she says. “I love you too.”
