Padmé was gone and there's nothing Sabé or Dormé could do.
That changed them in an irreparable way, for none of the girls felt like they could move on knowing Padmé wasn't there anymore and nothing would ever be the same as it was when she used to. That's exactly what lead them to leave Naboo searching for a new home, because every little corner of the planet reminded them of their Queen - and without her it didn't feel like a home anymore.
Together, Sabé and Dormé manage to survive such a tragic loss. The former handmaidens never forgot Padmé, quite the opposite, they found in the deceased Queen of Naboo courage to finally start a new life side by side. Padmé would've wanted that, and Sabé and Dormé want it too.
"I'll miss her forever, but I will love you forever." Dormé said every morning when she woke up.
"Forever is a long time." It's what Sabé always answered.
"I know."
Everyone deserves a start over, but Sabé and Dormé somehow managed to re-start the story.
