Carla whispers soothing words to her. Lisa wants to believe them as they lie in the dark. She's failing Betsy, maybe if she had been present more things would be different. But her job was important or at least she had thought so. Lisa had thought that the police helped get justice, they couldn't always prevent crime but they could get justice. Yet lately that didn't seem to be happening. Everyone had an excuse for why.
“Betsy will be fine. She's strong like her mum,” Carla soothes, fingers caressing Lisa's arm. “I am here for you both. You know that.”
