Chapter Text
The bright light shone through the gap in the curtains. Osgood slowly opened her eyes trying to adjust to the bright light, her mind thinking back to the day before. That walk around Borran park when Kate asked her if she wanted to have dinner together– the way Kate's voice paused as if she felt unsure if she should ask.
She found herself worrying about the blonde, 'Is there something more about this?' Osgood thought to herself, her eyes glancing around the room until they locked on Kate in a armchair typing on her computer. She looked tired. 'Did she not sleep last night?'
The brunette shuffled herself over to the edge of the bed and stood up. "Morning Kate." Osgood said out loud, watching as Kate looked over to her.
"Oh… morning… Osgood." Kate replied, but Osgood arched her eyebrow. Something was definitely off with Kate.
Kate closed her laptop and placed it down on the coffee table. Part of her thought that maybe she miss read the situation. Its not like she actually did have a crush on Osgood, they were just friends and she was her boss. Kate tried to relax, leaning back until the cushions supported her. "Kate?" A voice asked, catching her attention. The blonde turned towards them to see Osgood stood behind one of the chairs. "Are you going to come downstairs for breakfast."
Kate blinked, She felt unsure what she should do. She wanted to have breakfast with Osgood, be able to sit with her hearing more collective terms for Geese. But the idea of actually being around Osgood made her feel nervous. 'Why couldn't Shindi have just left everything alone.'
"I think I shouldn't…" Kate answered, her eyes focused on the way Osgood's face dropped. It hurt her seeing the way Osgood's face changed.
"Oh, Okay…" Osgood replied, the disappointment audible in her voice. Kate quickly regretted turning down Osgood's offer of breakfast, she wanted to say that she changed her mind that she would love to have breakfast with her. But she said nothing. She watched as the brunette turned towards the hotel room door. "See you later Kate."
"See you later Osgood." Kate replied, watching as Osgood left the room. Once the door shut Kate quickly placed both her hands against either side of her head.
"Why is this happening?" She asked herself and got up from her chair to walk over towards the bed. As she lay down on the bed she stared up at the ceiling. "I was straight– I thought I was straight."
Osgood sat in the restaurant. eating her Omelette, she couldn't stop thinking something was wrong with Kate. 'Was it something I said?' Osgood thought to herself, remembering that conversation about the many different collective terms for a group of Geese. She knew that they both had a lovely day together yesterday, that walk… their dinner together… 'Did I do something wrong to make Kate not like me?" She couldn't figure out what happened just that something had happened to make Kate distant. she had never seen Kate act like that around anyone, even…
"Is there anything else I can get you?" The waiter asked Osgood, causing her to snap out of her train of thoughts.
"Oh, no thank you." The brunette replied. Once the waiter had walked away from her, she leaned towards the table. She could not shake her anxiety over Kate. 'Maybe I am just overthinking this. It should be fine…'
Osgood used the walk back up to their room to practice calming breaths. The more she thought about her breathing the less calm she became so the journey between the lift and the suite became a battle to stop herself from wheezing.
She opened the door and entered the room, glancing around to see where Kate was. Her eyes locked on the bed to see the blonde fast asleep above the quilt. Osgood looked over to the couch where a blanket was sat to the side and she picked it up.
The brunette walked across the room towards where the bed was and she gently placed the blanket over the blonde before walking towards the doors out to the balcony.
Kate opened her eyes. Glancing around the room out of confusion, she felt the blanket on top of her causing her to think back to when she lay down on the bed, definitely not grabbing the blanket. Her eyes focused on the window out to the balcony noticing how dark it was. 'Did I really just sleep through most of the day.' With the little light on the balcony Kate could see Osgood staring out over the lake.
'Osgood placed the blanket on me?" Kate thought to herself, the thought of Osgood still caring for her even after the way she treated her during the morning made her smile.
She stood up from the bed and walked over to the door of the balcony, Once she reached for the door handle she noticed the brunette on a tablet.
As she opened the door she quietly walked closer to Osgood trying not to disturb or frighten her. “Oh hi kate you’re awake…” Osgood quietly said, giving Kate a fright. “I was beginning to worry about you. I have ran a new set of scanning parameters today, I included some things I’ve borrowed from the geophysics society… but I am still drawing a blank. I am still waiting to complete three of the tests so I will not rule anything out just yet. But it really is like there was never anything here. Also there is some fresh coffee options on the dresser. But you really should eat though, even if you don’t want to join me for dinner.”
I’ll have dinner with you,” Kate quietly replied, causing Osgood’s eyes to widen out of shock.
“The restaurant down stairs?” The brunette asked, Kate noticed how she was trying to hide her excitement.
“Yes!” Kate exclaimed, turning towards the balcony door. “I am going to change my clothes before we go.”
Once the two got down to the restaurant Kate’s eyes focused on the sign on the door to the restaurant. ‘CLOSED’
Kate turned towards the brunette ready to break the news, but quickly noticed that Osgood had already seen the sign. “Where should we go?” Osgood asked before Kate got the chance to breathe in.
“Room service?” Kate answered but she quickly noticed Osgood’s facial expression change– Osgood didn’t look happy with that idea. “There’s a Chippy about a 15 minute walk away from here called…” Kate paused to think about what the chip shop was called. “Its called ‘The Codfish.”
“Oh Yes!” Osgood exclaimed, causing the blonde to smile.
The walk through the streets of Ambleside was quiet. Kate’s worry about being around Osgood had gone away, As they neared the chip shop Osgood turned towards the blonde with a smile on her face.. “What do you think you will get?” Osgood asked.
“I think I will get the sausage supper,” Kate answered her eyes locked with Osgood’s. “What are you planning on getting.. Os?” Kate’s voice was soft as she said Osgood’s nickname, causing the brunette to blush.
“Oh… I think I will uh… get chips…” Osgood awkwardly answered trying to hide the fact that she was blushing.
Once they got to the door of the chip shop they opened the door and walked inside, standing at the back of the queue.
“Is that your normal sausage supper order?” Osgood asked, looking into Kate’s eyes.
“Yes! Well I don’t actually get a chippy that often. I actually prefer chinese food…” Osgood found herself lost in the conversation focusing on Kate talking. They slowly moved forward in the queue.
“Os, about this morning…” Kate began to explain, causing Osgood to feel worried about what the blonde was about to say. “I am sorry that I was so distant this morning. I just felt very off and I–”
“Next!” The voice said from behind the counter. It was their turn to order. Part of Kate felt disappointed that they were interrupted before she was able to tell Osgood what really happened this morning…
