Comment on Update on Rules

  1. This place has the makings of a great space and I'm glad I was told about it. You're very right that there's not a lot of fandom spaces that focus on women/sapphics. If I'm honest it does make me a bit disappointed at the change that allows a man to be part of the focus via polyshipping. I think if people were harrasing you about that part of the rules they need to just deal with the fact that not every sapphic space needs to include men somehow when pretty much the rest of the internet does that for them already. Regardless, I hope it gets better for you, dealing with harrassment is certainly no fun and you have a good foundation here.

The rules had already allowed F/F fics that also included other non-F/F ships. So there was always going to be fics where men had some part of the focus.

      1. Yes, but the main focus still needed to be on f/f, f/NB etc. even if other stuff is a secondary focus. It's the main focus I'm talking about.

I understand. It can just get fuzzy with longer works where there's a large cast of characters and multiple ships.

I'm currently going through my F/F tag on AO3 to see what to port over, and it's not always straightforward.

And as the site gets bigger, it's inevitable that different authors are going to make different judgment calls here.

        2. Hi! I received an email about this that made what I believed to be a good argument. I believe it is very much possible to write a M/F/F relationship in which f/f/etc is prominent enough. For example in situations of canonical polyamory, of having deeply entwined narrative arcs with a male character & 2+ female/nb characters, etc. Additionally, I would believe or at least hope that when people want to upload fics with M/F/F(/etc+) content, they will generally mostly post stuff that involves the female/nb characters as equally or more than the male ones, as that is the main & acknowledged theme of the site.

            Yep, that's the plan.

          2. I think that makes sense! I have a canon M/F/F ship where even if I were to solely post a fic based around the women, their relationship still will always have some entwinement with the male character. It's just how it developed in the film. It still feels like a celebration of sapphic love that I think fits the spirit of Sunset, but the overall relationship fundamentally works as part of a triad. It wouldn't feel authentic to erase references to their decades-long relationship with the male character, so it is nice to know there is some leeway!
