Work Text:
Karina yawned widely as she leaned on the general store counter. Her mom was out and about doing who knows what, so it was Karina’s turn to watch the store.
‘Whatever. I’m sure no one will even come by.’
Indeed, no one came by for most of her shift. And just as she was about to fall asleep, Karina heard a familiar voice.
“It’s such a dreadful day!” The voice declared, sounding very pleased.
“Good day to you too, Sofia,” Karina mumbled with a smile. Karina, despite what many might think, never got tired of the girl’s unique way of speaking. She saw Sofia held a bag in her hand. “That for me?”
“You’re quite stupid. Of course it’s for you.” Sofia set the bag on the counter. Karina opened it up to find a slip of paper.
“A voucher for a free parasol,” Karina read the note. “I assume your sister would sew it?”
“Actually, no. I’ve been learning how to sew from her, and I’d be the one to make it.”
Karina’s face lit up at that. She was pleased to know Sofia was developing some practical skills. “And so you want us to both have parasols?”
“Matching is absolutely awful, don’t you agree?” Sofia asked.
“It’d be nice to match with you for sure. Thank you for this.”
“Of course. I hate you!”
Karina smiled. “Love you too, Sofia.”
