(semi)proper ASL grammar ahead!

Half written just to add to the small amount of us who headcanon Beatrix as HoH/deaf

Work Text:

Beatrix LeBeau was brand new to ranching just one year ago. Now here she is, an expert in her own right. And Mochi Miles could not help but be smitten.

Trust me, she tried her best to avoid this. Mochi was short, brash, and curt as she could manage without being outright rude to this new rancher. But, Beatrix always just nodded along with that stupidly happy face. She let Mochi’s remarks slide and always made sure to complete her requests as quick as she could manage. It didn’t matter how outrageous the request, she completed it with nary a complaint.

Once Mochi deemed Beatrix worthy of ranching Quicksilver slimes, she knew she was in too deep. Every day, Beatrix would come through for a round of ranching to turn in the plorts. She didn’t even seem to care about the Newbucks she was getting or what other rewards Mochi offered to keep her around. No, Beatrix came by for Mochi. And every single time Mochi turned on that Range Exchange’s video call, she always spilled out some new part of her life to the ever patient-Beatrix.

When they met in person, Mochi was surprised to learn that Beatrix was deaf. Honestly, Mochi wondered how she even kept up the whole ranch without being able to hear a Tarr around the corner. But, as Mochi watched Beatrix work, all her concerns turned to smoke. Beatrix was amazing. She managed to make ranching look graceful. And her ever sunny-attitude reflected off her slimes; all of them happy as can be.

’You like…like goddess,’ Mochi signed to the girl one day, just in awe of Beatrix in general. She was this regular girl from Earth who managed to be just…perfect.

Beatrix just giggled, that beautiful giggle, and patted Mochi on the back.

‘Me, you, same. We rancher.’ Beatrix signed back, and gave Mochi a hug.

’You better,’ Mochi protested after the hug ended.

Beatrix shook her head, and reached out to gently hold Mochi’s hand. ’You good same. You help me, I help you. I not better.’

Mochi just sighed, and a soft smile took over her face. ’Thank you.’ She hugged Beatrix softly, but Beatrix’s one flaw is her hugs were always as tight as she could manage. But, Mochi liked that too.

“You’re just perfect…”
