Work Text:
Briar cracked her eyes open. She blinked, then blinked again.
‘I’m…awake.’
She sat up, and groaned. Laying down for a hundred years is not good for the joints.
‘…wait, aren’t I only supposed to wake up after a kiss?’
Briar looked around the room, but she couldn’t seem to find anyone. She stopped after a few moments, her gaze falling to the ground.
‘Right. I won’t even know them. Everyone…’
She felt tears welling in her eyes, and rubbed at them harshly.
‘Why did this have to happen? I want my friends back…’
Her crying was interrupted by footsteps outside her door. Briar scrubbed at her face. It must be her prince…here to save her. The door opened, and Briar did not believe her eyes.
“…no. No, this isn’t real. This cannot be real…”
She scrubbed at her eyes, but, they didn’t go away.
“…Cupid? How are you still here?”
Cupid fully entered the room, and sat down next to Briar. She immediately took her into a hug.
“I live a long time. Perks of being a demigoddess.”
Briar just hugged her as tight as she could manage, crying into her shoulder.
“But why are you even here? Why am I awake? Why did any of this happen?”
Cupid softly shushed her, petting the crying girl’s head.
“I wanted to be here for you. I didn’t want you to feel alone. And…” Cupid’s face was slowly growing red. “I realized it had been a hundred years, so…I tried kissing you to see what would happen. When you didn’t wake up, I just stepped out to try and think, and then I heard you waking up and crying, and…” Cupid can’t even finish her thoughts, she just squeezes Briar tighter.
Briar squeezes back, openly crying into Cupid’s shoulder, but with a smile now. “I’m so happy, you can’t even believe it!”
