Nayuta jumped out of her seat once Rinne wobbled through the door. Beaten up, Rinne looked like she had gone through hell.
“Rinne!” Carefully taking hold of her, she led her to the couch. Rushing to get the first-aid kit.
Rinne sinked into the cushions. Struggling to speak, “There was more of them than I expected—”
Nayuta raised a hand. “No need to talk now. Just rest.” Wiping the antiseptic onto a cloth, she began to clean Rinne’s wounds. Feeling bad as she saw Rinne wince.
Slowly Nayuta wrapped a bandage around her knee. Then her arm. Mindful of her movements, not wanting to accidentally cause any more pain. She texted Akiko to let her know to bring more supplies once she’d get back.
For now Rinne was patched up, and she sat next to her.
She tiredly smiled at Nayuta. “Thank you.” There was a softness deep in her eyes as she gazed at her.
“No need to thank me. You just need to get some rest, ok?”
“Okay.” After a beat, Rinne rested her head right on her shoulder. Letting out a deep breath. It didn’t take much more for her to gradually drift off into sleep.
Nayuta stayed still and read a nearby book to pass the time. Silently, she was happy that Rinne felt safe enough to do this with her.
A while later Rinne woke up. Sleepily mumbling, “Thank you again.” And softly kissed her right on the cheek. Nayuta happily gave her one back.
