why gaze at the sky when i could look at you?

Summary:

The sky is painted in a dark purple color, almost close to blueish. The starts glisten, making it looks almost ethereal.

Even so, Matsuri eyes can only look at her roommate.

Work Text:

The sky is painted in a dark purple color,  almost close to blueish. The stars glisten, making it looks almost ethereal — like it came from another world, since it's beauty can't be replicated on this one. The chilly wind is comforting when paired with this breath-taking view, making it a very nice night to be outside on the rooftop.

Even so, Matsuri eyes can only look at her roommate. She scans the way her hair look black in the low light, making it more pretty than it already is. Yuyu's relaxed face, who almost glows in the lack of a better illumination, has a little contented smile on her lips. Her lilalic eyes, who normally look so troubled, now has a found sparkle on them.

She looks so pretty like this. If only Hata could, she would tried to have a picture of this very moment, so she could hide in her bedside drawer. Then, everytime she misses the other, all she would need to do is pick the photo and look at it.

Not that it would beat the real thing.

“... Matsuri?”

She blinked. Her blurry gaze slowly coming into form, untill she could see the clear lines of worry on Shirai's look. Her heart skipped a beat.

“Can I help you?” She asked, though, instead of giving an excuse about her staring. Perhaps Yuyu hasn't noticed it.

Hata let her roommate search her face, probably trying to decipher her mood before deciding how to make her question. Knowing the other lack of good reading on people's emotions, she was sure her feelings were still safe in the confines of her heart.

One day, Matsuri would let them out in the open and make Yuyu know about them. She didn't really put much thought on the when or how, not caring yet about that part — she didn't wanted to entertain the possibilities of being rejected or accepted. But for now, she could enjoy the feeling of a fast beating heart in the silence of a shared night on a rooftop.

Shirai shook her head in negation, putting her purple eyes back at the stars.

“It's nothing.” Her voice sounded a little insecure, something only someone who knew her for longer than two years could pick up on. Nevertheless, if she decided not to pry, Hata wouldn't make her change her mind. “The sky is beautiful tonight.”

Still looking at Shirai, feeling her chest full of warm feelings and letting a little satisfied smile slip on her lips, Matsuri replied:

“Yes, it is.”
