Tomo is bright. Tomo is happy. Tomo is friendly. Tomo is everything Gundou is not.
Even as kids, they were exact opposites. Gundou was feminine, snarky, and uninterested in boys. Tomo was masculine, cheerful, and interested in being friends with boys.
Honestly, not much has changed, aside from Tomo developing a romantic interest in boys, more specifically Junichirou.
Oh yeah, and Gundou still had a giant crush on the cheerful girl.
But, she had absolutely no chance.
Firstly, Tomo has only been interested in boys. While not necessarily damning evidence that she’s straight, Tomo had never been shy with other girls in the locker room, meanwhile Gundou hid to make sure she didn’t accidentally catch a glimpse of anyone. Especially Tomo. Gundou doesn’t think she can ever look at the girl’s physique without immediately combusting.
Secondly, Tomo deserves better than Gundou. While Gundou is not convinced Junichirou is cut out for it, he’s definitely better for her than Gundou. Gundou is dark and depressing. Opposites don’t necessarily balance. Not in a romantic relationship, at least.
Lastly, Tomo sees them as just friends. But, not even just friends. No, best friends. Platonic soulmates. Partners-in-crime. She does actually refer to them with that last one pretty often.
Gundou likes it.
Partners.
Maybe just platonically, but Gundou never wants to give up the cheerful girl.
Platonic is enough.
