"Yeah, yeah or so you say." Was the grouchy answer Mary gave, by her side. The water was slowly clawing their uniforms, and part of her bangs were already wet, but she tried to not acknowledge it.
She didn't want to lose the gamble even if it was a ridiculous one.

They're all much too young for this - but is anyone really ever ready to see their best friend's dead body? Is anyone ever prepared for it, at any age? The elderly people Taissa knew - before the crash - always cried when their friends died. Even in old age no one expects it to happen until it happens and then, well, the grief is monstrous. The grief is an entirely new wilderness to navigate.

The names of each specific bone, the function of the heart and its chambers and why it flutters backward like ripped-off butterfly wings when you're around her. Concepts of action potentials and homeostasis and labeling every damn highway intersection of the brain. The sad pathetic pitiful truth that your teacher doesn't want to hear is this: none of that shit actually matters in the big picture. In the long-term.
It's the skeletal muscle you have to focus on.
