Steph reached out a hand to check her temperature. Cass tensed up a little at first, probably on instinct, but relaxed when Steph gently laid the back of her hand on her forehead.
“Jeez, you’re burning up,” Steph said. Cass’ brow furrowed. “You’re sick,” Steph clarified.
Cass’ frown deepened. “I don’t… get sick.”

Summary
It was mostly dark inside, save for a single lamp turned on near the bed. The room was empty, but there was some noise coming from the adjoining bathroom. Steph had no time to formulate a plan before someone walked out of the bathroom, pausing dead in their tracks when they saw her standing there.
Part of Steph had hoped she was wrong. But there she was. Steph knew it instinctually. Her hair was shorter and her face was slimmer and she looked tired. But it was her.
Greta yelped and jumped back, terrified.
“Wait, wait,” Steph said, ripping her hood and mask off and throwing them on the ground. “It’s me! It’s me.”

Summary
With a solid kick to the sternum, Steph went flying backwards and landed heavily on the ground, rolling to absorb the impact. At this point she had a whole garden of bruises flowering up and down her sides, and every movement sent a dull pain through her bones. She took a deep breath and forced it into background static, scrambling onto her feet as fast as she could.
“Lucky hit,” she said, shifting back into a defensive position.
